What kind of yoga do we practice at Palm Cove Yoga?

I’ve been practicing yoga for 30 years, and have sampled lots of different styles of yoga with many different teachers. I’ve explored Hatha, Yin, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Bikram, Restorative, Vinyasa, Yoga Nidra, Knoff… Each of these styles offers something unique, and I always learn something new when I attend training or someone else’s class. Initially I trained in the Knoff Yoga system, and I appreciate Nicky’s focus on each pose being completed totally correctly, and her focus on strength. In January this year I trained in Ashtanga with Nancy Gilgoff in Maui and loved the emphasis on maintaining movement and energy right through the practice.

The Knoff style is a great foundation practice for beginners… I teach the underpinning movement and placement of the body in each pose, and spend time with each student correcting and providing adjustments. Each body is unique. In class we joke that each student has their star pose, and their challenge pose.

As you progress and join the general class we mix it up a bit. We still maintain a strong focus on strength and correct alignment, but access poses and sequencing from other styles.

I conducted a survey of my students recently, to identify what they like, and any improvements they would like.

One student said:

The variety keeps things interesting/varied so does not become routine or stale. Always different, never know what you’re going to get, but with that there is always consistency and development of poses etc, building on what we’ve learnt before but keeping it fresh and fun.”

If this sounds like your kind of thing, send me a message
